Imagine walking through your local park, glancing at the crook of a mossy tree, and finding—not a real fungus—but a hand-painted ceramic mushroom or a tiny wooden sculpture waiting just for you.
This isn't a fairy tale; it’s Game of Shrooms, a global phenomenon that turns the entire world into a giant, mushroom-themed scavenger hunt for one day every year.
Want to take the magic home?
I’ve had so many people ask if they can snag a piece of the hunt early. While I’ll be hiding a few of these original gouache designs in the wild on June 13th, I’ve released a limited batch of Sticker Packs for those who want to guarantee a find (or are joining the hunt from overseas!).
I’m so stoked with how these turned out. I was worried about losing the hand-painted feel of the gouache, but the texture and vibrancy are spot on. A few will be waiting for you in Miranda but the rest are ready to ship to your door!

What is Game of Shrooms?
At its heart, Game of Shrooms @gameofshroomsofficial is a world-wide "Art N Seek" event. The rules are refreshingly simple:
1. Artists create original, mushroom-themed artworks.
2. On a designated day (this year it’s June 13, 2026), they hide these pieces in public spaces.
3. Hunters follow clues—usually dropped on Instagram or through a global interactive map—to find the art.
4. Finders Keepers: If you find it, it’s yours to take home for free.
The mastermind behind this whimsical chaos is Daniel "Attaboy" Seifert @attayumfactory

The Origin Story
Attaboy started "planting" hand-painted mushrooms in 2019 during a period of depression. He found that the process of creating something small and hiding it for a stranger to find changed the narrative of his day. It was a way to inject a bit of wonder into a world that often feels heavy. When other artists began to follow his lead, he leaned in—inviting the whole world to join him in a synchronized day of art-sharing.
Local Spotlight: Hunting in Miranda with Alex Conan
The movement officially reached Miranda 2228 (a leafy suburb in The Sutherland Shire) last year, when I alongside with my daughter Konstantina planted mushroom themed goodies. This year, I am excited to announce I will be participating again and am officially pinned on the global Game of Shrooms map and will be spreading some fungal magic in Miranda once again.
I’ve been busy in the studio prepping a variety of treasures for you to track down, including:
• Hand-crafted Ceramics: Mushroom themed ceramic cups, wall hangers and more
• Custom Stickers: Mushroom themed sun catcher decals and more
• Art Prints: Vibrant mushroom illustrations ready for framing.
How to Get Involved
Whether you’re an established artist or someone who just picked up a paintbrush for the first time, Game of Shrooms is for everyone.
• For the Hunters: Be sure to follow me on Instagram @alexconanillustration Follow the hashtag #alexconangos2026 on social media and keep your eyes peeled. You can also follow along and check out what’s happening world wide with #gameofshrooms and #gameofshrooms2026. Visit the official interactive map to see my pin in Miranda and/or find other "shroom drops" from others artists happening nearby. At the time of writing this blog post I am the only artist actively participating within Sutherland Shire. The map is a general guideline to show you artists that are nearby to you, the artworks being hidden won’t be at the exact address pinned but rather in the nearby vicinity.
• For the Artists: If you want to join in the fun and hide your own art, you can simply visit the Yumfactory website to register to get on the map! Start creating your mushroom themed art, be sure to share heaps of pics and videos on your socials to generate a buzz. On the day you then hide your art in a public space, take photos and videos and share hints/clues online for your seekers to follow.
Awesome tips for artists wanting to get involved
Make sure you attach some instructions with your artwork outlining your socials or email so the finder reaches out to let you know that the artwork has been located.
Since we want to keep our communities looking beautiful, it’s a key rule of the game that any "planted" artworks not discovered by hunters must be collected by the artist the following day to ensure we leave no trace behind. Hence why having clear instructions for your finders can help minimise your duty in returning the next day to collect undiscovered artworks.
Choosing an easy route for you to revisit is essential in making this a success. For example; plant near a location close to home or somewhere easily accessible for you to get to such as a nearby park or a shopping centre.

Awesome tips for hunters wanting to get involved
If you are a lucky finder and locate an artwork you want to keep, that’s great! Be sure to contact the artist to let them know. If you are feeling extra generous perhaps snap a pic and tag them on social media and give the artist a well deserved shout out.
In the instance you locate an artwork and it doesn’t ‘vibe’ with you, simply leave it for the next person.
Some artists will leave artworks within close range of each other, if you as a hunter discover more than one piece of art from the same artist please don’t take them all for yourself. Be kind and share the whimsy that Game of Shrooms is about.
Why It Matters
In an era of digital everything, Game of Shrooms forces us to look down, look behind trees, and engage with our physical communities. It’s a reminder that art doesn’t have to live behind velvet ropes. Sometimes, the best masterpiece is the one you find hidden in the wild.
Miranda, get ready—the hunt is on!
With magic and gratitude,
Alex
